Six Moon Designs Skyscape Trekker provides a lot of internal space for such a light tent, achieving this by using trekking poles as its framework and utilising a hybrid single/two skin design.

Six Moon Designs says:

The  Skyscape Trekker for 2018 is now constructed with 100% Silicone coated Polyester material. The Canopy is 20D material and the floor has been constructed with 40D material for additional strength.  The canopy stretch has been decreased along with the packed volume.

By popular demand, the Skyscape Trekker now has a higher bathtub floor along the sides and now the crossbar is incorporated into the shelter -- so it will no longer get lost.

The Lunar Solo's distinctive low hexagonal shape easily spills the wind no matter the direction. Short, steeply sloped sides, handle snow or high winds with ease. A generous canopy covers a 26 sq. ft. sleeping area plus 8.5 sq. ft. of vestibule storage. The 48" peak height, set in the middle of the tent maximizes room for sitting and taking care of chores.

The sleeping area is a surrounded 6-inch deep bathtub floor, topped by 6 inches of mesh. This ensures excellent ventilation while keeping you separated from low canopy walls. This keeps you drier on those occasions when condensation forms on the canopy.

The vestibule is set on the long side of the tent to maximize views and ventilation when fully open. Close it and you've got phenomenal protection from the worst storms.

A 2012 redesign raised the canopy 3" (up to 48") and offset the pole. The result was considerably more headroom. Extending the floor to 90" and making end walls vertical enhances sleeping for taller individuals. The slight reduction in floor space is more than compensated for by better weather handling. With more vertical walls, the Lunar Solo easily sheds wind and snow.

Trekker Model

The canopy and floor of the Trekker are constructed of Silicone Polyester. This fabric has been the workhorse of fabrics used to build ultralight tents for the last decade. Its main properties are its strength, light weight and that it’s impervious to mold or mildew.

The Trekker is great when you want to be light but don't want to break the bank.

Six Moon Design's 2018 Skyscape Trekker 1P Tent has kept the classic design but seen an upgrade in materials to improve performance and durability. The change in materials should see less stretch in the fabric while giving it a slightly smaller pack size too. They have managed to keep the weight down while maintaining the versatility of being able to use trekking poles or tent poles which was always a great advantage over many other traditional solo tents. This newer version has been adapted to make it much more usable for taller sleeper without sacrificing weight.

The two pole design allows for a lot more head height, especially with the integrated spreader bar. However, I always find this a bit too much when setting up and when I'm tired at the end of a long day the last thing I want is to spend ages fiddling and adjusting just to get the tent set up. There is a good amount of space provided by the vestibules and the two door access is a big plus. Ventilation can be an issue with any single skin tent but it is fairly easy to deal with in this tent as long as you understand that you will inevitably have to face this problem.

Sturdy lightweight shelter at an excellent price

I used this tent on my 5 month through hike of the Pacific Crest Trail. It was an excellent choice and far cheaper than many comparable alternatives. It stood up to strong winds and snow. At a push (and if you’re small) this can be used as a two man tent. As with all single wall tents condensation can be a problem. It is important to pitch this right (with the bathtub at even heights all the way around) or condensation can trickle inside the tent at the foot end. I would also recommend using a groundsheet with this tent if you will be using it on rocky ground as the bottom is on the thin side (for example it is thinner than the floor of my Terra Nova Superlight Voyager). Overall, this is an excellent choice if weight is your main consideration and you are used to dealing with the condensation of a single wall tent.

even better than expected

bought a while ago and used it a few times in the uk bit bit the bullet and took it on the GR20 over 10 days this summer combined with some toaks titanium nails and a thin piece of plastic as an extra ground sheet and it did not dissapoint. I was worried that as a non-free standing tent I might struggle with the hard ground but it wasn't really a problem. i had 1 night during a thunderstorm where I had a little bit of a problem with 'misting' of condensation as the rain hit the tent but not bad enough to make anything wet. I also have the SMD lunar solo and condensation was much less of a problem in the trekker that the lunar solo and worth the slight increase in weight.

Product FAQs
Do the Six Moon Designs tents and shelters come already seam sealed?

Six Moon Designs currently only offer non-seam sealed tents and tarps to their dealers. Due to the volume of seam sealing for their own direct orders this service is also not currently available for special orders either. SMD are hoping to be able to start offering this service to dealers again in the future.

If you want to seam seal your SMD tent, the product to use is Gear Aid Seam Grip Sil (also known as McNett Silnet but recently rebranded).
