Exped's Orion Extreme series tents achieve a higher weather rating than the standard Orion principally because of an enhanced pole sleeve design. Both versions are stable, roomy and spacious.
The stormproof 2 person tent! The Orion Extreme is the tent of choice should a tent need to withstand above average winds. The full length ridge pole reaches the ground for enhanced wind stability and also creates a high canopy with comfortable living space. Two large vestibules hold loads of gear and two wide doors make entry and exit quick and simple.
||||This tent is one of Exped's EXPEDITION tents - Safety and confidence at high altitude and stormy conditions is the focus here. Strategic pole crossings, flat pole sleeves, efficient geometry and the highest quality materials give Exped tents the stability and strength to withstand the most severe conditions. Designed for, and tested in the wildest regions on earth; windy Patagonia, the high Himalaya, savage Alaska and both poles.|
Exped's Orion series tents are among their most stable. With various pole configurations across the Exped range the poles in the Orion series all reach the ground - on many tents additional poles are used to support the inner tent and canopy to deliver spacious headroom - in the case of the Orion tents the longitudinal pole does this job but also extends down to the floor for considerable added stability.
The tents are pretty spacious too, with internal head height of 125cm on the two person the fairly standard sized footprint feels more spacious due to the internal volume created. The standard Orion tents are rated for 4 season trekking and the Orion Extreme series are rated as expedition tents, so the materials chosen are at the high strength, high performance end of the spectrum - the groundsheets are 70Denier (a measure of the weight and hence thickness of a fabric) which is about the highest you'll see on a lightweight tent. The flysheets are 40Denier, PU coated and factory seam sealed, the poles are 9mm thick.
The Orion Extreme tents are slightly lighter in weight than the standard Orion tents even though they achieve a higher rating, this is because the difference between the two is design rather than materials. The Extreme tents have redesigned pole sleeves designed to maximise stability in windy conditions.
