The MSR Elixir 1 Tent is the most liveable solo backpacking tent in it's class, although this does mean it's a little heavier compared to similar sized tents. All Elixir models have been updated to make them more comfortable and even easier to set-up.

MSR says:

Our most livable tent for solo backpackers and campers, the MSR Elixir 1 tent combines a fast and easy setup with generous accommodations. The versatile tent features a large vestibule for storing gear and one easy-entry door. The tent body balances breathable mesh with solid canopy fabric to deliver ventilation, warmth and privacy. Inside, a built-in gear loft keeps smaller items organized and within reach, while the glow-in-the-dark zipper pull is easy to find at night. Whether you’re frontcountry camping or trekking deeper into the wilderness, the Elixir 1 tent was built for livability at the highest level. Footprint included.

All MSR Elixir Tents have been updated with larger vestibules, built-in gear lofts, glow-in-the-dark zippers and an easy-to-find red vestibule door (grey model only). They now also feature laser-etched, directional pole-end grommets and colour-coded poles for a fast and easy set-up.

The Elixir Tents combine MSR design and quality with lightweight rather than ultra lightweight materials to produce a series of tents that perform well but are heavier and less costly than MSR's leading edge products.

The tents are still all MSR in terms of its quality of materials, design and construction, there's no compromise on performance but there is on weight. The Elixir series is heavier than similar sized MSR tents because they're made with slightly heavier materials, heavier also means cheaper (in our world), so MSR have produced an excellent and relatively inexpensive tent where the only compromise is its weight.

Overall an ideal option for backpackers seeking easy-to-assemble tents at a great value.

Fantastic entry level tent

The Elixir 1 was my choice as an entry level tent, as I was looking for something that comes in at good price to get started with solo wild camping. The only trade-off is the weight, but at roughly 2kg and a packed size of 48x15cm, it's still in the lightweight category. Apart from that, you get a tent that surely is on par with similar models from the MSR series in terms of quality and functionality, for almost half the price. Definitely durable enough to pitch near the mountain top in more severe weather conditions. Ventilation and warmth are excellent. It's the little things such as the colour coded setup, see-through-mesh, storage shelves and glow-in-the-dark-zippers that make all the difference. Plus the vestibule does not only provide lots of storage space, but serves as a wind shield for your stove as well. Love this tent, can only recommend.

Great Tent

What can I say well it’s a great tent, quick and easy to pitch I have spent multiple nights in the tent now, with two of those nights being thunder storms, very stable tent even with out the guys pegged out. This tent would be suitable if you’re over 6ft. But other than that I can’t fault the tent even with the weight, so unless you really need to shed the grams don’t count out this as viable option for solo trekking.
