OPTIMUS WINDSHIELD

I've used this with the MSR pocket rocket 2 and the Alpkit MyTiPot (900ml). The pocket rocket opens easily inside the windshield with no problem and sits below the top edge of the windshield giving it some protection from the wind. The MyTiPot is fairly wide and it just about sits just below the top of the windshield the windscreen with a few mm to spare either side (the windshield is not exactly a semi-circle as the two halves are forced apart by the action of clipping it to the canister lip. So all in all a good fit for both items (I did a lot of measuring and fretting before making the purchase, but its a good fit). In terms of stowage, because of the sprung metal "hinge", it wraps firmly around the bottom of my MyTiPot (which in turn contains my cup, canister, stove and lighter), and then just put the package inside the net bag that came with the pot. Performance - the windshield has a lot of holes cut through it just above the base of the shield, to improve airflow and to avoid getting the attached canister too hot I guess, and it is open on one side completely so in terms of how well it performs, I'd have to say fair to middling, in that when its windy, or even breezy, the wind still gets through, but it does reduce its effect somewhat and is about as effective as it could be given the potential risks of using a windshield with a canister stove. I do wonder if, given the fact that the back is open, whether it needs those holes along the base. Also the weight... it says 80gs here, but it feels heavier. On the whole though I like it, I wish it was lighter and more windproof, but it is what it is and it does a job, and it works well with my set up and will work with a lot of others too as long as the pot is not too wide, or the pot rests on the stove are not too wide.
