Trail Designs's Caldera Keg F Stove System is made up of a few parts. Firstly the Caldera Cone stove; now renowned as being one of the most efficient and simple ways of cooking using a meths stove whilst backpacking. The aluminium cone fits your specified pot perfectly giving you a super stable platform to hold your boiling hot water. The pot & cone are placed over the stove once it is lit and in around 7 minutes you'll have boiling water. This is a long boil time compared to gas stoves but the Caldera Cone stove system is silent in comparison and gives a more satisfying experience. The pot included in this kit is a fanatically light recycled aluminium beer can. There is a silicone band which acts as the pot gripper, saving you from damaging the pot and yourself.
Trail Designs says:
The Caldera Keg is the lightest most stable wind resistant and efficient cooking system you can buy.
There is a good chance that the pot/stove/cone combination weighs less than your watch! The heart of the Caldera Keg System is the popular Caldera Cone that delivers stability wind resistance pot support and the best heat transfer you are going to find in a windscreen. The Caldera Keg pot seeks to minimize the impact on the planet by reusing discarded beverage containers for the pot and lid.
On the lip of the Keg we have included a silicon band to help protect you from the hot edge and a second larger band for non-formed cans.
We also include an insulating sleeve/cozy for handling the Keg and keeping your liquids warm. The 12-10 stove includes an integrated primer pan and is specifically designed to run in the higher heat and reduced oxygen environment inside the cone.
The fuel bottle kit includes not only a 5.5oz fuel bottle but a reducer lid measuring cup and instructions.
All of this has been carefully designed to fit perfectly into the Caldera Caddy that will protect your system under normal use while doubling as a mug and bowl!
Typical Boil time for 500ml water - 7 1/2 minutes
Meths cooking systems - like the Trail Designs Caldera Cone - are slower and less convenient than cooking with Gas - but if you`re going where gas canisters are not available then meths privides a good alternative. Many people prefer meths because its a gentle - quiet way to cook! The Trail Designs systems employ a cone which concentrates the heat and makes their systmes the most efficient around - just don`t stand on it accidentally.
