For a single stove for all conditions, it’s hard to beat the Soto StormBreaker. With excellent wind resistance, high efficiency, and its multi-fuel burning ability, the StormBreaker is a beautiful bit of kit, essential for backcountry adventures with unreliable supplies.

SOTO says:

This easy-to-fold stainless steel, aluminum and brass stove with slip-resistant pot supports, hose, tank and fuel support controller weighs in at 443 grams and it works with liquid or fuel gas. Switch from standard fuel canisters to white gas without swapping jets and even invert canisters for increased performance in cold weather conditions using the folding “wing stabilizer” that is included in the package.

Cold and windy weather conditions? No problem with the StormBreaker. Cookware sits low to the burner head with a main flame of over 300 micro flames, utilizing the same wind-beating, low-profile, concave burner design that has earned SOTO’s WindMaster stove past awards, including Travel Tales HITT Seal of Approval for travel product excellence, Gear Institute’s Best in Class Award and the 2018 Alpine Institute’s Guide’s Choice. Faster boil time. Less gas consumption. The amount of fuel consumed depends on the type of fuel used. If using a liquid mixture, it will consume 250 grams in about 48 minutes. If using petrol, it will take about 96 minutes to go through 480 ml.

SOTO's StormBreaker Multi-Fuel Stove + Fuel Bottle is a single stove solution for whichever fuel you prefer. Capable of burning any liquid or gas fuel, the Soto StormBreaker is an excellent, highly versatile mid-weight stove. The wide burner head ensures a quick, efficient boil, and the wide stance provided by the large legs make this an extremely stable stove. The versatility of the StormBreaker is what makes it really stand out from the competition as its multi-fuel capabilities result in a stove that has quickly become my go-to piece of gear for any adventure.

Soto’s legendary quality is on show here, with the whole kit, from the pump to the canister attachment, being beautifully made. The pump is an engineering marvel, providing much higher pressures than competitors stoves to eliminate the leakages that have traditionally plagued liquid fuel stoves. The stove is also surprisingly compact, with legs that fold tightly around the burner head to create a small, unobtrusive bundle that’ll slip into any ultralight pack. It must be noted that due to the high pressure of the Smart Pump, it is vitally important that only Soto’s own gas bottle should be used with the StormBreaker.

Reliable no doubt, but over spec

I'm a beginner to camping and hiking and all that, and I decided to get this gear as it allows for gas canister and petrol, thinking it would be great to use in both winter cold temperatures and summer. Little did I know that fuel efficiency for gas is actually a lot less compared to those that specialise in gas canisters only. Looking back I think it might have been better buying gas burners and petrol burners separately, and that might actually be cheaper as well. Having said that, I have no complaints about its performance. I've camped out in snow conditions and always works, very quick to boil the water or grill the steak, or whatever the need may be. Withstands wind relatively well too. It does get a bit of getting used to though. At the start, I had fuel running on the bottom side of the stove, which meant fire spread onto the ground. It seems to happen if you do not pump enough. Got over that phase now and I can recommend this if you are hiking in a very cold environment.
