Outdoor Research's Alti Gore-Tex Mitts are a serious mitt for the worst conditions. In all honesty, these mitts would be overkill for most normal winter activities but the removable insulated liner makes them a lot more versatile. If you suffer from cold hands then these gloves are worth considering. My hands overheat easily so I've never got the most out of these gloves but the waterproof outer with gauntlet cuff is a great piece of protection when the weather turns and my usual thin liner style gloves aren't enough.
Both the inner liner and outer mitt have PrimaLoft Gold insulation so warmth is never an issue. The outer mitt has a Gore-Tex lining so it can be used on its own in most conditions. The gauntlet cuffs come up really high on your are and are easy to cinch tight so they give plenty of protection against wind, rain and snow. The durable leather palms on the outer provide extra grip and haven't shown much wear after seeing close contact with plenty of rock faces.
