Montane says:

Designed for high energy activities such as ski touring, fastpacking and ultra running where temperature regulation and protection is key. The lightweight, close fitting GRANITE STRETCH softshell fabric provides breathability and dexterity, combined with a suede leather palm, ideal for use with poles. When the temperature drops or the descent begins the PrimaLoft® insulated PERTEX® mitt can be pulled out to provide increased warmth and protection.

Great product but jury is out on durability

Silicon grips started falling off after 5 minutes and stitches came out on the back of the thumb. I exchanged them for a replacement to give them a fair try. The gloves are bit on the small side and, on their own, supply nearly zero warmth but are very dexterous. The mitts supply a lot of warmth when you are active and moving at speed. If you tuck the mitt away when running they gradually unfurl again to flap about and annoy you. I have used them for walking, cold winter running and cycling. For the price I don't think they are worth it and I am unsure if they will have any long term durability. That said I will continue to use the glove but will not buy again.

Not Impressed

The glove without the mitt is just not good enough as an insulator and offers little protection, but once the mitt is applied they improve a lot, but then the glove becomes clumsy and catches on poles, probably will snag in time. I returned them but have to compliment UOG on their fantastic customer service.
