The Ether Light XT insulated mat provides exceptional comfort and warmth in a very light package.

Sea to Summit says:

Featuring a women's specific shape that is wider at the hip and narrower at the shoulder. This mat combines Exkin Platinum and Thermolite insulation with a loop baffle Air Sprung Cell construction to make a 10cm thick mat with an incredibly low weight.

Larger air pockets are created by using many looped TPU baffles which connect the top and bottom fabric layers with our Air Sprung Cell dot weld pattern. The looped baffles allow the top and bottom layers to be positioned further apart creating larger pockets of air when inflated that require less fabric overall. Perfect for side sleepers, the extra height of this mat lets hips sink deeper into it without touching the ground.

The Sea to Summit's Ether Light XT Insulated Sleeping Mat impresses straight out of the box. It was straightforward to inflate with the the well thought out integrated stuff and pump sack. I found it surprisingly easy to roll up and fit into the stuff sack something I cannot say of some other inflatable mats.

The depth of the mat sets it apart from its competitors providing extra comfort and keeping you further away from the cold ground whichever way you sleep. The outer fabric is tough and grippy so the mat will stay where you want it.

A note on the specified weight

A clarification to my previous review where I said the pad was 60g over spec. This was compared to the spec on the packaging. I've just noticed that the spec here on the website is correct and should be accurate.

Exceptional comfort and reliability, for a modest weight penalty

This may be the end of a long search for a comfortable and reliable pad. I began to notice how a number of leading gear reviewers have adopted the Ether Light as their personal pad. Plus the manager and many staff of my local outdoor store. Why all the interest? First, the air-sprung cells really do distribute weight better, so you can keep the pad more fully inflated without losing comfort. With most pads you lose a lot of the insulation if you deflate it enough to be comfortable. Second, it's very stable, right up to the edge, meaning you benefit from the full width of the mat and don't roll off. This is a sharp contrast to the NeoAir. Third, they claim to have eliminated delamination of the welds as a point of failure by using a superior fabric and welding technology. When I contacted them, they claimed to have zero cases of delamination to date. As this is probably the main cause of failures in other pads, this is a big deal. Fourth, it's MUCH quieter than the NeoAir. Fifth, the valve looks well designed and robust, giving fairly easy inflation and very easy fine-adjustment and deflation. Sixth, it comes with an effective inflation sack - just three bag-fulls to inflate, even with this larger model. Seventh, the pillow lock system really does work - eliminating a fairly major pain point. And you can position the pillow offset from the center so there is room for your arms if you are stomach sleeping. Finally, the fabric is almost twice the denier of the NeoAir and should be more puncture-proof. Even as an average sized male, for my personal sleeping style the women's shape works well. I sleep in foetal position and for the first time I have a pad where my knees and thighs aren't hanging over the edge. I also tried the Regular, but the Women's Large was much more comfortable. But nothing comes for free. It's significantly heavier than the NeoAir, particularly as it came in about 60g over spec. Sea to Summit claim that this is as light as they can go while maintaining reliable welds and relatively quiet insulation, so you have to decide if this is the right tradeoff for you. Compared to the NeoAir, I find it FAR more comfortable. It's warmer, much quieter, easier to inflate and deflate, and should be significantly more reliable. Worth the extra weight for me. Right now it's in a class of its own.
