The Synmat UL is a good choice if you are looking for a comfortable, general purpose, but lightweight mat and you prefer a full rectangular mat rather than a mummy shape.
Exped says: The ultralight and super compact mat that offers warmth and comfort. Next-to-skin comfort and anti-slip GripSkin honeycomb-pattern coating. Laminate is air tight and impervious to hydrolysis.
Clever Pumpsack included: The Schnozzel Pumpbag allows you to inflate the mat instantly while preventing humidity from your breath affecting the insulation. It also doubles as an ultra lightweight compression stuffsack.
Proven FlatValve Technology: separate inflation and deflation valves, non protruding and more durable than traditional valves.
Exped's SynMat UL Sleeping Mat is an insulated airbed. Airbeds are easily the most comfortable camping mats available and its only in recent years that they have been made light enough for backpackers, airbeds with insulation go a step further and keep you warmer - this enhances the performance of your sleeping bag and in my view is well worth the extra weight though you need to match the quality of insulation to the conditions you are likely to encounter.
Exped rates the Synmat UL for use in temperatures down to minus 4C - of course it can be used in much lower temperatures but Exped are saying there are better products for colder conditions - but minus 4C is quite cold, and probably identifies this mat as 3+ season.
Weight and pack size are extremely good, the Synmat UL is 7cm thick so it will match the comfort of most of the Exped range and it has slightly enlarge baffles along each side to help keep you centred on the mat. Its a rectangular mat - the very lightest mats are usually mummy shaped to save weight but many people prefer rectangular mats because they are easier to stay on.
There's a separate valve for inflation and deflation which makes it marginally more convenient to use.
The Synmat UL is a good choice if you are looking for a comfortable, general purpose, but lightweight mat and you prefer a full rectangular mat rather than a mummy shape. The Synmat UL differs from the Synmat UL Lite in that it has slightly more insulation and has dual valves for inflation and deflation.
