UOG TOP PICK - Thermarest's NeoAir XTherm sleeping mats - Lightest and warmest winter insulated airbeds - We've singled out Thermarest's NeoAir XTherm mats as one of our top recommendations because they offer the best insulation for their weight, suitable for winter camping on very cold ground. They also offer real comfort and a choice of mummy and rectangular shapes.
Thermarest's NeoAir XTherm mats combine the comfort of an airbed with the insulation value required for sleeping in the coldest conditions and on snow.
Thermarest says: The Neo Air XTherm air mattress delivers the greatest warmth-to-weight ratio available in any air mattress by far, with a new, softer, textured no-slip fabric for better next-to-skin comfort and a quieter rest.
Multiple, reflective ThermaCapture layers give the XTherm air mattress true four-season warmth without the weight or bulk usually found in a winter-worthy mattress.
Stuff sack and repair kit included.
Triangular Core Matrix
Our most advanced design uses patent-pending technology to minimize heat loss with two stacked layers of triangular baffles, creating hundreds of individual cells in our warmest mattresses. Simultaneously this internal structure adds an unmatched level of stability to every NeoAir mattress.
ThermaCapture Radiant Heat Technology is a proprietary reflective coating that we apply to a range of surfaces. By reflecting radiant heat back to your body that is otherwise lost, this extremely lightweight coating turns that surface into a very efficient heat reflector, amplifying warmth without the excess weight or bulk of added, conventional insulating materials.
Insulated airbeds offer a great combination of comfort low weight and small pack size - in many ways they are now the ideal sleeping mat. Some people however prefer self inflating mats because if their mat develops a leak there is still a piece of foam to lie on if your airbed develops a leak you have nothing. Other people find they sometimes roll off an airbed and prefer a thinner mat between them and the ground.
The lightest of the Thermarest NeoAir mats use very light fabrics which have been reported to make a `crinkle` sound as you move around on them - they are likened to sleeping on a crisp packet - my experience is that this is minimal - after using a NeoAir for a couple of years I didn`t realise it crinkled until someone pointed it out to me! Now I know - I still don`t notice it when kipping down.
