UOG TOP PICK - Thermarest's Xlite Series Sleeping Mats - Best for low weight and packsize without compromising comfort - We've singled out Thermarest's Xlite series of Sleeping Mats as one of our top recommendations because they deliver the lightest weight and smallest packsize yet are among the most comfortable mats available.

Thermarest says: The NeoAir XLite mattress delivers more warmth and comfort per ounce than any other three-season air mattress available. Our patent-pending technologies deliver that performance with minimal weight and less bulk than a one-liter water bottle.

This year, new softer fabrics bring better next-to-skin comfort and a boost in durability, all with no added weight. For the discerning alpinist, thru-hiker or backcountry minimalist who’s counting every ounce, there is simply no better choice to assure the kind of rest you need to get done what you’ve got planned for tomorrow.

Triangular Core Matrix

Our most advanced design uses patent-pending technology to minimize heat loss with two stacked layers of triangular baffles, creating hundreds of individual cells in our warmest mattresses. Simultaneously this internal structure adds an unmatched level of stability to every NeoAir mattress.

ThermaCapture

ThermaCapture Radiant Heat Technology is a proprietary reflective coating that we apply to a range of surfaces. By reflecting radiant heat back to your body that is otherwise lost, this extremely lightweight coating turns that surface into a very efficient heat reflector, amplifying warmth without the excess weight or bulk of added, conventional insulating materials.

Insulated airbeds offer a great combination of comfort low weight and small pack size - in many ways they are now the ideal sleeping mat. Some people however prefer self inflating mats because if their mat develops a leak there is still a piece of foam to lie on if your airbed develops a leak you have nothing.   Other people find they sometimes roll off an airbed and prefer a thinner mat between them and the ground.

The lightest of the Thermarest NeoAir mats use very light fabrics which have been reported to make a `crinkle` sound as you move around on them - they are likened to sleeping on a crisp packet - my experience is that this is minimal - after using a NeoAir for a couple of years I didn`t realise it crinkled until someone pointed it out to me! Now I know - I still don`t notice it when kipping down.

Excellent

This is the fifth mat I have owned and it will probably be the last. It is excellent. As a side sleeper I am very impressed. I heard stories of noisiness, and yes there is a wee bit, but not an undue amount. Quite quick to fill as well and the low weight and small pack size given the dimensions of this mat are impressive. The top surface is not slippery, nor is the bottom and the outer (edge) rail area is very substantial, so no rolling off easily. All in all (granted, after a few of uses only) I think this mat is excellent.

Very important bit of kit!

I'm 183cm tall and although I would of fit on the regular, I like sleeping on my front, without bits hanging over the edge of the mat! First impressions are good, you can see the quality of the product straight away. Doesn't take too long to inflate, and is firm when full. You can let the air out slowly while you're lying there and feel the mat start to fill into your contours. I had a thin self inflating mat before, and this blows it out the water!
