Big Agnes says:

Completely redesigned from the inside out and R-Value rated by a third party, the Q-Core SLX is lighter, tougher, easier to inflate/deflate, packs smaller and sleeps warmer with PrimaLoft® Silver Insulation. The Q-Core SLX ups the ante on quilted comfort in the backcountry with offset I-Beams that create incredible multi-directional support and stability. When it comes to superlight, three-season comfort, this pad stands alone. Save your breath for the miles ahead, and use the included upcycled pad inflation sack to inflate.

The superlight and compact Big Agnes 2020 Q-Core SLX sleeping pad is ideal for lightweight backpacking. Designed for 3 season use, the pad features an upgraded layer of PrimaLoft Silver insulation with a heat reflective film. This durable, high-loft synthetic insulation provides exceptional warmth with minimal weight and bulk.

It has similar features to the Insulated Air Core Ultra mats but with a luxurious additional 3cm depth on the outer chambers which will keep you cradled in the middle so you don't roll off in the night. It also has a quilted top to provide a cushioned pillowy sleeping surface, as comfortable as your bed at home. And somehow it's even lighter.

Durable I-beam construction provides stability while reducing weight and bulk. All the latest pads from Big Agnes have received an updated air valve for easy one-way inflation and convenient, super-fast deflation.

ASTM R-Value:

From 2020, there is a new industry standard for measuring the R-value (level of insulation) of sleeping mats – ASTM F3340-18. This new standard is the sleeping mat equivalent to the EN rating for sleeping bags.

You can now directly compare the R-value of mats rated using the ASTM F3340-18 with confidence that is a fair and accurate comparison between mats. In simple terms, the higher the R-value, the warmer the mat.

In general terms, an R-value below 2.0 is for summer use, 2.0 to 4.0 is for cooler 3 season use and 4.0+ is for winter temperatures. This will be also be dependent on your sleeping bag, how cold you sleep etc. Please contact our customer service team if you need advice on choosing the right mat for your activity.

One Month Straight

Recently spent one month visiting family in the Czech Republic. No spare beds meant the Q-Core was the go to option. Small enough to pack into my hand luggage for the flight whilst not compromising on thickness when inflated. This mat did not let me down. I'd used it once before, post-lockdown (2020), and it kept me warm up in the Lakes. If this mat can go for one month straight on solid wood, it'll have no problem with a few nights away from the rat race. Easy to inflate with the included pump sack, and adjustable with the valve system. All I would say is if you are a bit taller or wider, get the larger size. I'm 6'3" 90kg and fit just perfect length and width.
