Exped's SynMat HL Winter mats are rated to minus 18C yet are very lightweight and comfortable, packed size is also very small - although designed for winter use the 9cm thickness adds comfort and the additional insulation means you can pack a lighter sleeping bag.

Exped says: SynMat HL Winter is designed to be the lightest 4-season sleeping mat on the planet. Tapered design, 20 denier fabric, microfiber insulation and 9 cm thickness create a balance of features that respect the most weight and bulk conscious winter campers. This mat also offers the warmth needed for cold sleepers in spring and summer conditions. It packs to an extremely small size and it's tapered profile fits into the smallest tents.

Next-to-skin comfort and anti-slip GripSkin honeycomb-pattern coating. Laminate is air tight and impervious to hydrolysis.

Clever Pumpsack included: The Schnozzel Pumpbag allows you to inflate the mat instantly while preventing humidity from your breath affecting the insulation. It also doubles as an ultra lightweight compression stuffsack.

Exped's SynMat HL Winter Sleeping Mats are insulated airbeds. Airbeds are easily the most comfortable camping mats available and its only in recent years that they have been made light enough for backpackers, airbeds with insulation go a step further and keep you warmer - this enhances the performance of your sleeping bag and in my view is well worth the extra weight, though you need to match the quality of insulation to the conditions you are likely to encounter.

Exped rates the Synmat HL Winter mats for use in temperatures down to minus 18C - of course it can be used in even lower temperatures but Exped are saying there are better products for colder conditions - but minus 18C is pretty cold, and probably the lowest you would experience in the UK.

Weight and pack size are extremely good, the Synmat HL Winter mats are 9cm thick which contributes to its enhanced insulation value - but also makes it a bit more comfortable than the standard 7cm mats. It has slightly enlarged baffles along each side to help keep you centred on the mat. They are mummy shaped mat - the very lightest mats are mummy shaped to save weight, some people prefer rectangular mats because they are easier to stay on but if that isn't a problem for you then the HL mat is a better option because its lighter.

There's a single valve for inflation and deflation which also minimises weight. The Synmat HL Winter is a good choice if you are looking for additional comfort or a mat you can use all year round, including winter.

Excellent Winter Mat

I've had this mat since January and used it through until late February and have again been using it since late October this year. Its extremely warm and comfortable, lightweight and packs down well. I have used the mat in -8 conditions without issue, I use a bag to pump it up and have never had air leaks. IMO, its an excellent winter mat that performs very well, very packable and lightweight.
