Exped's AirMat HL sleeping mats are among the lightest available and have one of the smallest packed sizes, with no additional insulation its still good down to 4C.
Exped says: The lightest, warmest and most comfortable sleeping mat in its category - and super packable! Next-to-skin comfort and anti-slip GripSkin honeycomb-pattern coating. Laminate is air tight and impervious to hydrolysis.
Sleeping mats are about comfort and insulation, airbeds are easily the most comfortable of all the mat types and most have a degree of insulation built in, the lightest however don't have any insulation as this adds weight - Exped's AirMat HL M Regular Sleeping Mat is among the lightest and despite having no added insulation it ticks the boxes in all other respects.
Weight and pack size are extremely good, the Airmat HL is 7cm thick so it will match the comfort of most of the Exped range and it still has the slightly enlarge baffles along each side to help keep you centred on the mat. Its mummy shaped to reduce weight further though some people prefer rectangular mats because they are easier to stay on. A further weight saving is made by using a single valve for inflation and deflation (Exped pioneered the two valve system).
Because of the relatively low insulation value Exped rate this mat for use down to 4C, but that's quite cold and covers a wide range of conditions, if you do most of your backpacking in the summer this could be the best option. Even for occasional use in colder weather you could team it up with a closed cell foam mat to boost the insulation value.
