A tough and reliable mat, insulated with 700+ fill power down providing excellent warmth-to-weight qualities(rated for use down to -40C). Small pack size. Comes with a stuff sack with an integrated pump.

Mountain Equipment says:

A down filled sleeping mat that gives exceptional insulation and comfort with a small pack size.

Combining Exped® patented construction and a unique internal Helix technology the Aerostat 7.0 Down mat is suitable for serious cold weather use. Robust welding and durable 30 denier Nylon ripstop fabric ensure long term expedition performance. A custom valve combines inflation and deflation and the supplied stuff sack doubles as a pump.

Mountain Equipment's Aerostat Down 7.0 Regular Sleeping Mat utilises patented construction techniques from Exped who as we know already make some of the best sleeping mats out there. The Mountain Equipment mats use the best bits from Exped's designs such as the valve to inflate and deflate the mat, they have then used materials specific to their target end-user. You get a 30 denier fabric on these mats, making them more durable and puncture resistant than other mats we sell. This makes them a bit heavier overall, but it might be a price worth paying if you're off on an extended trek or if you can't guarantee you always be camping on smooth(ish) ground.

The integrated Windsock and stuff sack enables easy inflation without getting moisture inside the mat. I think the addition of a roll top closure in the Windsock is an unnecessary addition as though doing up the buckle should mean more air going into the mat its an extra faff and the mat inflates fine without.

ASTM R-Value:

From 2020, there is a new industry standard for measuring the R-value (level of insulation) of sleeping mats – ASTM F3340-18. This new standard is the sleeping mat equivalent to the EN rating for sleeping bags.

You can now directly compare the R-value of mats rated using the ASTM F3340-18 with confidence that is a fair and accurate comparison between mats. In simple terms, the higher the R-value, the warmer the mat.

In general terms, an R-value below 2.0 is for summer use, 2.0 to 4.0 is for cooler 3 season use and 4.0+ is for winter temperatures. This will be also be dependent on your sleeping bag, how cold you sleep etc. Please contact our customer service team if you need advice on choosing the right mat for your activity.

Comfortable, Tough, Warm

I've been using sleeping pads/mats for 50 years and have gone from closed cell foam through self-inflating to the ME Aerostat Down 7.0. I've become a side-sleeper over the years and this mat provides more comfort than any other I've tried, and its silent, unlike another famous brand. The longitudinal baffles help prevent sliding and it inflates quite quickly (4 -6 bags worth). The insulation is excellent and the fabric appears tougher than most, yes it's a bit heavier than others on the market, but I'll accept a few extra grams for a good night's sleep. It packs quite small and can be packed back in its bag 'first time'! I've been using ME down products for more years than I care to remember and they've never let me down. This and my ME Classic 500 sleeping bag see me through most weather/seasons in UK. Only on snow do I need to add my ME Lightline Duvet Jacket or 4 season bag. Well done ME, another great product from a UK based company.
