Criterion's Quantum bag provides a great combination of quality, warmth, weight and all at a fantastic price. The use of 870FP down and a Pertex Quantum shell provide reliable warmth and durability.
The Criterion Quantum 450 is an extremely versatile lightweight down sleeping bag. Designed for 3/4 season trekking, summer Alpinism, ultralight hiking and adventure racing. With a comfort temperature rating of -10°C, this bag is suitable for camping during most of the year in the UK. Its weight is 800 grams, so is lightweight, helping to keep your pack weight down.
It is made using a Pertex Quantum (35gms/m²) ripstop shell filled with 450g of 870 FP Polish Goose down. Trapezoid construction eliminates cold spots enabling a comfortable night's sleep. An integrated zip and neck baffle helps to keep drafts out and body heat in, whilst 2-way YKK zips enable venting if you do start to overheat.
A DWR coated shell helps protect the down from any dampness that may occur in your tent, from condensation or wet gear. When in its stuff sack, the pack size is 15 x 15 x 30 cm which will still leave plenty of room in your rucksack.
The Criterion Quantum 450 sleeping bag can be used for a diverse range of activities including ultralight hiking, 3 season trekking, summer Alpinism, micro-adventures, endurance racing/adventure racing/ mountain marathons and cycle touring. The night-time temperature when you are doing these activities could well be a few degrees below freezing. With a comfort temperature of -10°C the Criterion Quantum 450 will keep you warm during most of the year in the UK. The weight of 800 grams enables the sleeping bag to be carried comfortably in your rucksack.
Criterion's Quantum 450 Down Sleeping Bag works well year-round in the UK. With 450g of really good quality 870FP down you are getting a really good level of warmth that will easily cope with most conditions outside of a full on Scottish winter. The lighter weight Pertex Quantum fabric is still durable but is focussed on cutting weight for more experienced backpackers. Weighing under 820g for a -10°C comfort limit and the performance is as good as you would hope. This has quickly become one of my sleeping bags of choice for any cold weather trip.
The bag is impressively lightweight for this temperature rating and it packs down really well too. It has all the features you'd expect on a more expensive bag such as an insulated zip and neck baffles, anti-snag zipper and the usual internal pocket. The hood provides good coverage and the drawcord can be used with one hand. At this low weight and with the quality materials used this bag provides amazing value for money.
