UOG TOP PICK - RAB Neutrino 200 Down Sleeping Bag - Impressive Comfort Limit with full feature set - We've singled out the Neutrino 200 sleeping bag as one of our top selections because even though it only has a half length zip, this enables it to maximise that warmth to weight ratio. A 1.5C Comfort Limit for this weight of bag with its shoulder baffle, zip baffle and shaped foot is an impressive result.
RAB says: Neutrino Series; Minimalist, lightweight pursuits.
The Neutrino series of bags are a range of lightweight down filled sleeping bags. We use 800 fill power Hydrophobic European goose down and we wrap it in very lightweight Pertex Quantum inner and outer fabric. this allows maximum loft for the down for minimum weight.
The Neutrino bags have a mummy taper shape that maximises warmth for minimum weight. The bags are hand-filled in Derbyshire by our experienced fillers - some of whom have been with Rab for 20 years - what they don't know about down isn't worth knowing!
The Neutrino Bags are aimed at lightweight end users - where every gram counts. the Neutrino bags are ideal for fast&light mountaineering, cycle touring, mountain marathons and ultralight backpacking.

RAB have been making sleeping bags for over thirty years so they know a thing or two about how to put one together. Working with Leeds University they have been working hard to further improve their warmth to weight ratios by perfecting the down volume/chamber size ratio to maximise loft and minimise fabric use, resulting in a lighter bag with no compromise on performance. There are also slight changes to the cut of the bags to support the chamber work that they have been doing.
All their down bags are now filled with Hydrophobic down which improves their performance in adverse damp conditions, this is especially significant if you want to use a bag night after night without the opportunity to air it off - under these conditions the down can be compromised by body moisture passing through it. Furthermore the Hydrophobic treatment neither adds weight nor impairs loft.
All the down is certified as responsibly sourced by the European Down and Feather Association.
All this adds up to a pretty impressive product. The Neutrino 200 has only a half length zip, but this enables it to maximise that warmth to weight ratio. A 1.5C Comfort Limit for this weight of bag with its shoulder baffle, zip baffle and shaped foot is an impressive result.
RAB Neutrino versus Neutrino Endurance - Rab produces two identical series of bags, the Neutrino and Neutrino Endurance. The Endurance bags have a Pertex Endurance fabric outer shell which has a high water resistance making it more suited to damp conditions, such as bivying or tarp camping. The standard Neutrino bags use Pertex Quantum fabric for the outer which whilst it doesn't have the water resistance of Pertex Endurance it is more breathable - making the bag arguably more comfortable.
What we say is that if you are going to be using a tent all the time then there's no reason to go for the Endurance bags - but if you are camping where damp may be a problem - such as under a tarp - then and Endurance bag is more appropriate.

EN13537:2012 - Look for the 2012 label for the most accurate rating; In 2012 the EN system of testing sleeping bags was re-vamped - the new testing procedures are more rigorous, producing more consistent results than previous tests. 2012 results tend to rate sleeping bags as poorer performing by a few degrees when compared to previous test results, even though the sleeping bag may be identical, or even better.
This means that comparison between an EN13537:2012 rated bag and an EN13537:2002 rated bag are particularly difficult - our advice is to use the new EN13537:2012 rating to compare with other bags who have also been rated in this way.
