The versatility with the Flex Lumbar is impressive. The adjustable capacity, number of handy pockets and comfortable design make this great for everything from day trips and trail running to dog walking.
Sierra Designs says:
The Flex Lumbar collection takes the same expanding gusset found in our Flex Capacitor, and shifts it vertically to work as a lumbar pack. Integrated water bottle pockets and enough room to stash a layer and some food means you have your bases covered for any day hike. Flex it open when you need to carry more, or cinch it down when you want a lower profile pack.
Sierra Design's Flex Lumbar 3-6L is all about flexible storage and it certainly delivers. Whether you are down sizing from a day pack or looking for a running waist pack this does a great job. As with the rest of the Flex range, the adjustable straps allow you to increase or compress the pack depending on what you need each time. The hip belt is solid and would work well on a full pack so it's a huge plus for a waist pack like this.
There are two zip compartments, one smaller hidden pocket and one to the main area which is then filled with handy drop pockets to keep smaller items organised. There are also two stretch mesh pockets to the rear of the hip fins that are big enough to seat a bottle and then another two smaller pockets on the front of the hip belt. Little touches such as the sturdy grab handle and stretchy chords to secure items make this pack even more practical and enjoyable to use.
Dimensions (H x W x D): 6" x 10" x 5" / 15.2 x 25.4 x 12.7 cm
Materials: 100D Nylon-Poly Ripstop

Needs To Get A Grip
Looked a good alternative to regular backpack. Able to carry two (small) water bottles; I reuse 250ml juice bottles. Care needed when replacing, not to insert inside side strap, rather than into mesh holder. Small pockets on waist band are big enough to hold snacks etc. The expanding part proved capable of taking mid-weight tech hoodie; take care when zipping to close. The padded pocket, twist pack and user possibly too warm for phone!? But a serious concern is the seeming inability of waist band buckle-set to lock/hold straps after adjusting..... knotting free end around strap doesn't look neat! Pity, because it is comfortable in use, and seems well made.
