A women specific design in an ultralight pack from Gregory means weight savings without the loss of practical features. Another top quality pack that looks great and performs even better with a super comfortable fit.
We think an ultralight pack with proper support and essential features provides a better experience - more efficient and much more enjoyable - than hyper-minimalist stuff sack with zero structure. The difference shows the morning after a 25km day, when the Octal 45 proves that comfort is one trail essential you can't live without.
Gregory's Octal 45 Rucksack utilizes Gregory's new AeroSpan suspension system which is an ultralight version of their VaporSpan suspension. It delivers the same combination of 360-degree moisture-wicking ventilation and tensioned perimeter frame load management while paying obsessive attention to weight reduction. It also features FocusForm shoulder harness and hipbelts and LifeSpan foam to provide lightweight comfort that should outlast other weight-conscious cushioning materials.
The rucksack fits in a lot of features while still managing to keep the weight down. You even have the option of removing the lid and swapping it for the ultralight weather flap to go full on minimalist. The only small issue I had with this is that it can be a little fiddly to remove the lid and I would have preferred a simple clip instead of threading it through the buckle - yes it might have added a few extra grams but that's just my preference as I feel the more it gets used the more difficult it might become to remove and attach.
Overall it's a great pack for backpackers and hikers who don't want to carry loads any more than 16kg.
