This is an excellent effort by Montane to produce a backpacking rucksack without compromising on comfort or features. Load transfer to the hips is achieved by a well designed internal frame and nicely padded hipbelt it works very well.
The Grand Tour is not for those people who are obsessed with weight reduction rather its for those who want a well designed and well featured pack that's also tough enough to survive weeks on the trail without demanding too much by way of careful use. The feature list is long so I won`t repeat it here - just to say that we especially like the decent hip belt pockets but we think the chest strap is too stretchy.
The frame comprises a rigid sheet of plastic which delivers highly effective weight transfer to the hips making this rucksack a very comfortable 'carry'. For heavy loads the pack could has some stability straps built in and linked to the hipfins. Its a good well-featured pack married to a tried and tested harness system.
