OMM's Phantom Packs are ultra minimalist in weight but still retain an impressive array of features. Weight can be reduced down to 215grams by removing the hip belt and foam backpad.
OMM says: Minimalist running pack. Designed for OMM purists and ultralight racers who pack light and compact, without breaking any of the core OMM design principles. Adaptable to meet the users needs, with removable and re-mountable belt pockets.
OMM's Phantom rucksacks are ultra minimalist from a weight point of view but actually manage to cram in an impressive range of features. Of course there's no frame but there is a piece of foam padding in the backpanel which is useful to stop hard items from digging into your back - it weighs all of 12grams so it pretty weight-efficient.
The other removable parts are the hipbelt wings (which also have pockets) - these clip into cord loops on the pack itself - of course a hipbelt of any description will increase stability, especially important when running, but by the same token the Phantom packs have a dual shoulder strap fixing arrangement which allows you to get a degree of stability when the hipbelt is removed. (in conjunction with the chest harness).
With side pockets and a bungee compression system, compatability with OMM's strap mounted water bottles the Phantom pack is a very well designed and thought out pack in this category.
