Granite Gear's Nimbus Trace Access 70 is designed to carry 60lb loads (27Kg) comfortably and is relentlessly practical with front opening feature, among others.
Granite Gear says:
The Nimbus Trace Access 70 is the pinnacle of our award winning Nimbus pack series. Big enough for longer, unsupported trips, yet lightweight, durable and functional. It features a zip open access panel and internal compression straps so you can get to that elusive piece of gear at the bottom of the pack without disturbing the gear above it.
The backbone of the pack is our redesigned, three dimensionally molded Nimbus framesheet. Now made with a maple-core, composite laminate which is both lighter and offers more longitudinal rigidity. This combined with a newly designed exoskeleton belt combine to offer excellent comfort and load transfer to your hips.
When it comes to load transfer, ergonomics and airflow not all suspension systems are created equal! Most of our competition still use low cost HDPE plastic and an aluminum stay or two.
Our reengineered 3D TopoFlex frame is engineered to fit the topography of your back and mimic the way a back naturally flexes. The single “pivot point” attachment system on our shoulder strap and belt allow for a more precise fit and better freedom of movement while continuously supporting the load and directing it to your hips or shoulders and allowing some of the load to be carried throughout the back. Because of this system the load can be shifted to be carried by different muscle and skeletal groups.
Our new Advection back panel allows for the air to flow over the back moving heat out while still maintaining significant contact and following the natural topography of the human back thus complimenting the ergonomic load carriage benefits of the TopoFlex frame and harness system.
Granite Gear make real Backpackers rucksacks! By that we mean they are relatively light have lots of large mesh pockets to stash gear - and are very comfortable over many days on the trail. The Nimbus range are for heavier loads 40lbs and over - if you are not going on a trip that demands that you carry this much then this pack is overkill - if you do need to carry this much then this pack is awesomely light - any other manufacturer would be recommending a 3 kilo pack to carry this kind of load.
We`ve sold lots of Granite Gear packs over the years and our customers love the comfort they provide - the new ranges of Nimbus and AC packs take the company`s products another step forward.
The weight of the Nimbus Trace pack can be reduced by 268g by removing the lid in this mode the top rolls and is held in place by straps - perfectly adequate but could be vulnerable to water getting in. The Lid also converts to a bumbag for short outings from basecamp.
The Nimbus Trace Access improves on the Nimbus Trace by adding a front zippered opening to allow easy access to gear and has an additional 8 litres capacity - all this adds weight but at 2kg it still comes up lighter than many other smaller packs in this category.
