If every gram counts consider using Gossamer Gear's Kumo 36 Superlight Rucksack. A very light-weight pack with a full-on feature set, strip it down to save more weight or stuff it to the gills either way its a great option to keep your adventures minimalist.

Gossamer Gear says: Tough, frameless pack for day trippers and die-hard minimalists.

The new Kumo is here! Two sizes and updated custom fabrics make this generation of Kumos the best yet.

This is a smaller-volume pack for low-stuff adventures. Maybe you’re doing a day hike and just carrying six or seven of the ten essentials. Or maybe you’re a wilderness warrior whose trail name is “Tent? Who needs a tent?” and thinks nothing of heading out on a backcountry weekend with six energy bars, one pair of socks and a Mylar blanket. Any hiker who wants more of an experience with less luggage will love the Kumo 36.

Gossamer Gear's Kumo 36 Superlight Rucksack, is one of our lightest rucksacks in the 30 -40 litre range. You can't get this light without sacrificing some durability but the pack doesn't lack for features.

The bag gives the appearance of a roll top enclosure but you get a pair of clips to narrow the entrance then the top folds down to be closed with compression straps to keep your pack contents secure. The fold over top has a zipped pocket. You get adjustable chest straps and removable hip belts which have zipped pockets for stashing those essentials you need when on the go. The shoulder straps have a lot of padding and useful small mesh pockets for items such energy gels.

The Kumo also has 2 side pockets suitable for water bottles and a large mesh pocket for further storage options. There are shock cord compression straps on both side panels. There is a lashing loop which could be used as an ice axe holder but I'm not convinced how effective it would be.

There is no rigid support structure but the comfy foam back panel can quickly be removed to uses as a sit mat or sleeping pad. A very light-weight and versatile pack given the feature set.

The most comfortable pack I have ever used.

I have tried many packs, from Golite Jam, to an Osprey Talon. They are no where as comfortable as the Kumo 36. My base pack weight is less that 10 lb and this pack is so comfortable I can forget it's there. Carries for 10 hours and no problems, the back pad is sufficient and give the pad some stiffness and shape. I put my sleep pad in there too, for ultimate comfort. Shoulder pouches are nice addition. You can get your glasses, phone, and things like sun cream and hand gel in them. It's just so perfectly designed, with every stretch pocket accessible whilst wearing it. I can reach my poles in the side pocket, and my wind shirt in the stretchy outside pocket. This is also great for a wet tent to be stuffed in. 2L water bottles go in the side pockets very nicely. At first I thought the top zip pocket would be too small, but actually it works really well for things like gloves, hat and a penknife , first aid kit etc. If you are an ultralight hiker, this pack is awesome.
