The MAG 22 is a simple, robust daypack that personifies Crux's minimalist philosophy. It has a 270˚ zip to access the main compartment and has a front pocket. It is fully waterproof apart from the gap between the two sliders on the main zip entrance.
The MAG 22, and its big brother, the MAG 28, could be considered as misfits in the crux product range: after all, they are the only non-mountaineering/climbing products that we do. Why is that?
The MAG 22 was never intended as a product. In fact, it was a simple daypack that we had made up in order to test welded seams on TPU nylon. Only a couple of test samples were made, but there was so much interest in the bags that we figured: let’s make a hundred pieces and sell them, thereby having a much larger test pool. They sold out incredibly quickly, so the hundred was followed by another 200 and before we knew it we were seduced by the tidy income it was bringing in. It still took us several years to officially include it in our workbook presentations to retailers and be listed on our website. As far as the testing is concerned, we’ve sold thousands and have never had a blown seam or weld failure.
Crux's MAG-22 Rucksack is a robust, waterproof pack that's pretty simple in terms of rucksack features. Just a main compartment and one large front pocket.
The back and shoulder straps are nicely padded but the waist belt is just webbing, no padding. But as this pack wasn't designed for mountaineering use I don't see that as a problem. It would make a great day pack for travel, commuting and just everyday use.
