UOG TOP PICK - OMM Classic 32 - Best for Adventure Racing, Superlight Backpacking and Events - We've singled out OMM's Classic Packs as one of our top recommendations because it offers a superb range of features suited to ultralight backpacking.

Grams are shaved by using a lighter weight fabric therefore not as durable as the RL (Rugged Light) models but for the hardcore its weight that counts above all. Supplied with an internal Duomat that works as a padded hipbelt and a torso length sleeping pad.

The Mountain marathon has many of the features of the other packs in the OMM range but is made with lighter fabric. The only compromise is therefore durablity over its heavier stable-mates.

Good product, some perks

Bought the pack just about 2 weeks ago, and took it on a bikepacking ride along the GR5 hiking route through Belgium and part of Luxembourg right away. Instantly felt good, especially compared to my over 15 years old LA Contour Event. I do have some thoughts about it, being:

PRO's:
* easier stuffing than a zippered bag;
* slightly elastic mesh makes sure it doesn't get in the way when it needs to, but is there when you need it;
* very big lid pocket! Worked great for my Sawyer Squeeze water filter, some chocolate (energy bar deluxe) and some other stuff;
* big side pockets. Had to watch out a bit to not lose the chain oil and the sunscreen. The traveller's indispensible toilet paper was held well in place though;
* weight is really low and was lowered even more by using my sleeping mat (NeoAir) instead of the DuoMat. Good isolation of the water sack this way;
* material feels very waterproof-y (with the white inside especially), and the reinforcements feel quite tough;
* it certainly feels stable when you adjust the straps well.

CON's:
* the height adjustment of the chest strap doesn't have a wide range. For me it felt a bit too low;
* the compression system is unique to OMM, which means there isn't really another way to compress the bag. I had to search how it worked and found the video on it here: https://www.ultralightoutdoorgear.co.uk/equipment-c3/rucksacks-c19/rucksack-accessories-c133/omm-leanweight-msc-kit-p844;
* ventilation isn't there. Just don't expect any ventilation at all. Your back will get wet, especially in summer going uphills etc.;
* adjustment range doesn't seem very wide for shorter people. The pack certainly doesn't seem designed to transfer the weight to the hips, and if you have a somewhat slender figure, the adjustment of the waist strap might be too little to transfer any weight to the hips.

All in all I'm quite happy with it, despite the few points for improvement.
