SOTO's Compact Lantern has its own gas tank which you refill from a standard gas canister, a good alternative to others which screw directly onto a gas can.
SOTO says: Compact lantern with refill tank. Refill lantern with Fuel tool. Use with regular mantle or without mantle. Works like a candle. Installed with Foldable Stabilizer. Case included.
On the face of it SOTO's Compact Lantern is quite heavy when you compare it to other ultra-lightweight gas lanterns, but the SOTO has its own gas storage tank so you don't tie up your gas canister when you're using it. Other, lighter lanterns that screw to the top of a gas canister mean you need two gas canisters if you want to use the light and your stove at the same time.
The SOTO lantern also has a glass globe which lets out more light and a more even light than lighter weight alternatives that use a mesh globe. Taken in context then this lantern is not the heavyweight it first appears, you get a high quality unit with the features of something much heavier.
You need to buy the filling adaptor to fill the lantern with gas from a standard gas canister, when full the lantern can be used in all its glory with a mantle or in candle mode with a low flame. The mantle's better in so many ways but as an emergency light the candle mode will do a job.
