For a head torch able to work well for more intense activities the IKO Core is definitely at the top of the pile. Low weight, great fit, amazing output and great all round performance.

The rechargeable IKO CORE headlamp combines multiple technologies to offer 500 lumens at only 79 g. Featuring an AIRFIT headband, an ultra-thin lamp body and an energy source worn in the rear, the headlamp is balanced and comfortable enough to be imperceptible. The multiple LEDs are ideally distributed to provide uniform lighting, for optimal visual comfort. Thanks to its HYBRID CONCEPT design, IKO CORE comes with the CORE rechargeable battery and is also compatible with three AAA/LR03 batteries (not included). It is versatile: can also be worn around the neck, or transformed into a lantern, using the storage pouch. It can be flattened to reduce bulk, making it practical for all outdoor activities.
Our Verdict
Petzl's IKO Core Headlamp is an interesting looking head torch which may put some people off but this is really where it performs much better then others. The combination of plastic and elasticated straps around it allow for a really good fit which keeps the light in place for anything from trail running to hiking. It does mean that it doesn't pack down as small as you might like for storage but the fit makes up for this with ease. It weighs in at just 78g and has a maximum output of 500 lumens which is normally a lot more than you need for even the most technical trails at night.
The multiple LED design makes for a great beam of light and there are enough settings to alter the output and style of beam to suit a range of activities. It comes with a rechargeable battery that is lightweight and fast to recharge with a USB connection. This is the most comfortable and versatile head torch I've ever used and it excels in activities where you are moving a lot, such as trail running.
