Our Verdict
MSR's Ceramic Skillet is a great piece to add to any backcountry cookery arsenal if you like to have more than just dehydrated meals when out on the hill. The ceramic coating does a good job of providing a non-stick surface, but as with all ceramic pans you do need to be a little more careful than with something like a cast iron skillet you would find at home.
It has enough surface area for a few bits of bacon or a couple of eggs, the deep sides also lend it to cooking something with more moisture in it, like bolognaise.You might struggle to flip pancakes with it with the walls being at a right angle to the base of the pan, but you could make some small american style ones easily enough.
The Talon handle is perhaps my favourite part of the whole ceramic range from MSR, the same handle is used for all the pots and pans so it has to be solid enough to take a 2.5 litre pot and it really is. The handle folds away neatly when not in use, so you don’t have to fully detach it and risk losing the handle. When in use it is locked in place with a small ‘click’ noise so you know there shouldn’t be any handles flying around or pot grabbers getting lost.
