Optimus's Sliding Long Handled Spoon is very long - at 23.5cm its ideal for eating out of freeze dried meal packets. It collapses to 17.5cm.
Optimus says:
Extendable, stable spoon that is ideal for use with food pouches. Separable for easy cleaning. BPA free, food grade material.
I used Optimus' Sliding Long Handled Spoon on three day backpacking trip to Scotland. I usually prefer metal cutlery over plastic, as plastic tends to bend and doesn’t taste right. However I discovered the metal spoon I was using was gradually scraping my lip after a week or so of exclusive use and I’ve been on the lookout for something better.
I eat my fair share of freeze dried meals so a long spoon is essential. The Optimus spoon is normal size but it extends if you need it to. It’s not flimsy at all – very robust – even in its extended state. The spoon end is also very rigid but soft edges make it nice to eat from.
When the handles closed the spoon is still quite a big item so no chance of stowing in a pot or anything – but its size and robustness is its strength afterall. The extension lock is a button in the handle which is absolutely solid. The bowl could be bigger and its heavier than many alternatives - but it’s a goodie.
