Hillsound's Trail Crampon Ultra is a tough piece of kit that features six stainless steel plates each with three spiked teeth. These provide immense grip on ice and snowy trails. They are perfect for running with in icy conditions as each spike plate is free moving providing total grip from these crampons no matter how your foot lands on the trail. The velcro strapping gives you a secure fit that can adapt to different footwear.
Hillsound says: Made of ultra high-strength stainless steel for durability and weight reduction, the new Trail Crampon ULTRA brings the Trail Crampon's legacy of superb traction performance to those needing to travel faster and lighter. 18 spikes offer aggressive traction on any icy surface and distributes pressure to withstand wear. Welded chains withstand repeated torque, foot strikes and abuse on any ice and snow. Double-sided chains keep a tight grip on shoes to prevent shifting of traction device. Larger heel plate gives secure traction and ultra stability for descents and trail-running.
My mate and I used Hillsound's Trail Crampons throughout last winter and are sold on them, they are for semi rigid footwear, whereas these Trail Crampon 'Ultra's' are designed for more flexible footwear such as for trail running, rather than a 'front&back' plate system the Ultras are completely chain link so that they mould to a softer shoe much better.
They're slightly heavier than the standard Trail Crampons reflecting the chain link construction, the spikes are just as aggressive and they are still constructed from steel. Note: we can't order specific colours of the Trail Crampon Ultra, some are Blue and some are Black.
