Grivel's Air Tech Light Crampons (New Matic EVO) are incredibly light and are the lightest 12 point mountaineering crampon we offer.

Grivel says:

The "lightened" 12-point crampon of the Air Tech family. Air Tech Light, in aluminum, is a close relative of the Air Tech family but with a significantly lower weight. Suitable for both mountaineering and ski touring. It has 12 points distributed in order to allow incredible performances on ice and snow. Thanks to the flexible regulation bar, it follows every movement of our foot. Adaptable thanks to the Cramp-O-Matic EVO, New-Matic EVO, New-Classic EVO systems. Equipped with the famous Grivel proactive Antibott both in the front and the rear. Its strong points are lightness and stability.

New-Matic EVO

The plastic harness system is hinged from two front posts which retain the boot securely even if it has a shallow, worn front welt or overboots are being used. Available on the following Grivel crampons: G1, G10, G10 Wide, Air Tech, Air Tech Hybrid, G12, Air Tech Light, Ski Tour New-Matic, G14.

Our Verdict

Grivel's Air Tech Light Crampons (New Matic) are the lightest 12 point mountaineering crampon we offer. the 12 points gives you extra points of contacts over the more usual 10 point walking crampon such as the G10.

The New Matic binding gives a more secure fitting than a New Classic binding but you need a compatible boot. The Air Tech Light crampons are easily adjustable and the rear bail can be completely removed for tighter packing. They come with anti balling plates as you would expect. The light alloy construction is the key to their impressive lightness but this will impact on their durability compared with steel construction.
