Excellent lightweight trail shoe gaiters

Having used the Outdoor Research Thru Gaiters for around 200 miles, I've been impressed with their performance. They aren't waterproof but will keep dirt and foliage like heather out of your shoes or boots. There is no sign of wear or damage after a 2 week crossing of Scotland on the TGO Challenge. My trail shoes have no heel break so the Hypalon underfoot strap took a hammering but it's held up without any issues. They are longer than most running specific gaiters which I prefer as it means that they extend beyond the tops of your socks which keeps them a bit cleaner on a multi day trek. The additional length also allows tucking in of your trekking pants if the ground is especially wet or muddy. The fabric at the front of the gaiter is water resistant like a very light soft shell whilst at the back it's a more open knit which dries fast and lets your ankles breath. They are rated at UPF50 which judging by the colour difference between where they covered and above on a hot sunny few days on the TGO Challenge seems to be the case.
