Expedition Foods’ delicious light-weight meals provide the perfect nutrition for a wide range of outdoor pursuits. Freeze-drying food is the most successful method of preservation, making it taste better, look better, weigh less and last longer.

Expedition Foods says:

Beef and Potato Hotpot.

Preparation: REMOVE THE OXYGEN ABSORBER* (sachet) from inside the pouch. Slowly add up to 350ml hot water, stirring as you pour and then close the bag. Wait 5-8 minutes for the food to rehydrate.

*The oxygen absorber helps maintain product freshness and is non toxic.

Cold water will suffice in an emergency, however the re-hydration time is much longer.

Expedition Foods meals have a long shelf life of up to 5 years.

7.5 STAFF'S TASTE TEST - The beef and potato hotpot went down well with our staff, though some people felt it lacked a 'meaty' taste, but had a nice enough flavour to it. The potato's were quite sweet so a bit of seasoning wouldn't have gone a miss. But over all it had a good consistency and flavour. Would be nice at the end of a long walk.

Measuring Jug Required

I bought a selection of dried meals from different manufacturers to try. The instructions are to add "...up to 200ml of boiling water..." but, unlike the other meals I tried, there's no line or gauge on the package to let you know how much you've added, so you'll need to pack a measuring jug. I'm also a bit puzzled about the the "up to 200ml". It tastes OK, but I needed to add salt and I wouldn't rely on it to replenish the salt I've sweated out during the day. I wouldn't buy again, but mainly because of the water measuring problem.

EXPEDITION FOODS BEEF AND POTATO HOTPOT

Awesome! It is one of a few main meals that I take on every trip. As with any other main meals from Expedition Foods it requires extra salt, at least for my taste. I notice it hydrates way better if you wait longer. I give it about 20 minutes.
