Lyo offer expedition meals using natural, fresh ingredients and no preservatives or artificial additives. They stand out from the crowd with unique recipes, the use of chunky ingredients that result in more natural, home style meals.
What is Marko Prezelj's favourite dessert? Apple pie without pie! That was something that inspired us to make it freeze-dried and possible to eat anytime anywhere. Sweet fried apples and crunchy traditional crumble bread bring to mind the time spent with grandparents, isn’t that great? We recommend using less water to get a perfectly crispy consistency.
We are cooking before freeze-drying. In our pouches there are no artificial additives, no extra sugar, no palm oil and no preservatives! Our meals are made from 100% natural ingredients and some of them are growing on our own fields.
LYO have tried to take a different route with their meals focussing on natural, fresh ingredients and no preservatives or artificial additives. They proudly cultivate some of the fruits and herbs on their own fields. Other fruits and herbs as well as vegetables come from farmers known to them personally. All ingredients are carefully verified to ensure that their products meet the highest quality standards.
The majority of the meals use interesting combinations of natural ingredients with chunky vegetables, authentic flavours and more of a home cooked approach. We’ve been lucky enough to test a variety of them and have always been impressed with the end results. Generally, we appreciated the good combinations of flavour, texture and portion size.
The fill line for adding water to the packs is novel with a blue area from the bottom showing how much water is required. It is quite a subtle design feature that can be easy to miss and some form of internal indicator would be best but it still works.

|7.0||JACQUI’S VERDICT - Vegetarian, 65g, 346 calories which is a good addition to your main meal. 10 mins to reconstitute – it was nice, you could taste the apple pieces, nice crunchy bits tasted like it should but perhaps needed more flavour, perhaps some vanilla would improve it.
|9.0||MARK'S TASTE TEST - Quite a high calorie count for a dessert. Needs very little water, just 2 minutes to reconstitute. Bingo! It tastes just like apple crumble, crunchy bits and big pieces of apple. It was lovely. 9/10|
