Mountain Hardwear's Ghost Whisperer Hooded jacket uses proprietary in-house fabrics and moisture resistant 800 Fill Power down to create a super light mid-layer.
Mountain Hardwear says:
The world’s lightest full-featured hooded down jacket. The sub-eight-ounce Ghost Whisperer Hooded Down can be compressed into its own pocket for easy storage. It’s been designed with the essentials in mind: Q.Shield™ DOWN 800-fill insulation resists moisture and maintains warmth, elastic binding in cuffs seals out moisture, toggle hem adjusts easily.
||||Q.Shield DOWN is a giant leap forward in down performance. Down fibers are infused with a permanent water repellency that helps maintain insulating performance even when exposed to moisture.|
Ghost Whisperer is a fabric so unique there’s only one mill in the world that can weave it. We developed this super-lightweight fabric as part of our Ueli Steck Project, a collaboration with speed alpinist Ueli Steck to reinvent climbing apparel and equipment for the next generation of ultrafast alpinists.
The Ghost Whisperer fabric’s super-tight weave is naturally downproof, windproof and water repellent. While some claim to offer lighter fabrics, the Ghost Whisperer is the world’s only true 7 denier by 10 denier fabric, using single 7d and 10d yarns rather than pairs of strands.
Mountain Hardwear's Ghost Whisperer garments are leading edge, designed to be the lightest in their class every component has been examined for its contribution to that low weight. Yet there is very little compromise on features, the Hooded jacket still has two handwarmer pockets, a cinchable hem and an insulated backing flap to the front zip.
The hood is fairly simple and close fitting and the cuffs are lightly elasticated. 72 grams of down isn't a lot, you can compare the amount of down with other jackets in this category to get an idea of their relative warmth. The Ghost Whisperer uses slightly higher quality down than most others.
The Ghost Whisperer series are well designed and well made - an amazing piece of kit.
