The Montane Chonos Ultra Down Jacket uses the very best Box Wall construction method to maximise the effectiveness of the down combined with lightweight fabrics to keep the total weight to a minimum for this high performing jacket.
Built for high altitude and extreme cold conditions, the Chonos Ultra Down Jacket combines high quality water resistant fluorocarbon-free HyperDRY™ ECO goose down and a unique PERTEX® Quantum Y Yarn outer shell fabric to create a supremely warm, lightweight and packable weather resistant boxwall jacket. The Chonos Ultra Down Jacket has minimalist weight saving features including a tailored ‘active mountain’ fit that prevents the hem raising whilst reaching high, a fully adjustable helmet compatible hood that can be easily stowed away, two deep A-line hand-warmer pockets and its own waterproof dry bag.

Montane have recently updated all their down products with HyperDry ECO. This flurocarbon-free down exhibits an optimal blend of water resistance, fill power, durability, cleanliness and washability while diminishing it's impact on the environment.
The Chonos Ultra Down Jacket employs a range of features to achieve a very low weight for a fully featured down jacket with Box Wall construction containing 250grams of down. The use of super lightweight fabrics and a mountain cut are two ways in which weight is saved - but in all other respects weight is added so as not to compromise on features.
For example the box wall construction adds a lot of weight comparatively speaking but really enhances the performance of the jacket compared to most other down jackets (which use stitch through construction). Box wall creates better pockets for the down to loft into with fewer 'pinch points' and cold spots to compromise performance - its a much more effective construction technique, but its also much more expensive to produce.
The other features are pretty standard for a technical jacket - the cuffs are elasticated (presumably to save a bit of weight). The hood has a wired peak and a simple velcro volume adjuster. Its a relatively close fitting garment which also preserves a high level of performance.
