Montane's Alpha 100 jacket delivers insulation with breathability for use when you're active in a very accomplished and well designed jacket.
Designed and developed for all-day winter climbing, the Alpha 100 Jacket gives excellent insulation throughout whilst remaining hyper breathable and extremely packable. It combines the unique properties of a PERTEX® Quantum outer fabric and POLARTEC® Alpha 100g insulation to create an extremely versatile jacket that can be worn on all-day routes.
The Alpha 100 Jacket provides protection in a new and unique way, using the revolutionary POLARTEC® Alpha - the latest evolutionary step in synthetic insulation. With its open, woven construction, POLARTEC® Alpha 100g insulation combines warmth with hyper breathability, whilst at the same time being extremely compressible. This new format of insulation is encased in a PERTEX® Quantum outer, which provides high wind resistance and is fast drying.
It also features a tailored ‘active mountain’ fit, which prevents the hem raising whilst reaching up high, a fully adjustable helmet compatible hood that can be easily stowed away and two deep A-line hand-warmer pockets which are encased in POLARTEC® Alpha insulation eliminating any cold spots.

Montane's Alpha 100 Jacket uses Polartec Alpha insulation and therefore is designed to be worn when you are active - on the move - there are alternative insulation garments that are more suited to wearing around camp - Polartec Alpha is about keeping you vented even though you are also being kept insulated.
Its quite a breakthrough, especially for cold weather walking when you need insulation but start sweating hard when you reach a strenuous bit. Weight for weight Polartec Alpha is only about half as warm as Primaloft so the king of insulation keeps its crown - but Alpha has its place - I recently wore an Alpha garment all day while walking in Corsica in particularly cold conditions and stayed warm & comfortable for the duration - I kept checking my baselayer, which stayed completely dry.
From a design point of view the Alpha 100 jacket has an impressive array of features, the hood has a wired brim and is fully adjustable with 'round the head' cinch cord so that you can set it up to move as you move your head. There's a generous fleecy chin area, an insulated flap behind the main zip and velcro adjustable cuffs.
Internally the lining is zoned with mesh in the areas where breathability is most important, such as the torso and underarms. Overall the Alpha 100 jacket is at the heavier end of the insulated jackets that we sell, and its a definite outer garment rather than a mid-layer garment like some of the lighter Primaloft garments. Its an accomplished piece.
