Marmot's Pre-Cip Jacket is a classic product that has been continually updated. It uses Marmots own in house fabric which has a good waterproof rating and a good breathability score. Whilst being pretty light its not in the same category as some of our ultralight shells, this is because the face fabric is a bit heavier and hence will be more durable.
This locates the Pre-Cip jacket in the mid range category. Another thing that adds weight is the feature set - the front zip has both internal and external flap which some think is a more effective arrangement than a water resistant zip with backing flap.
The pocket zips also have flaps, as do the pit zips. We like pit zips because they are a really effective way to vent a jacket, and its surprising how little rain gets in when the pit zips are open. The hood has a brim but its not wired, and the volume adjustment is via a velcro strip at the back. The collar stands up inside the hood, which folds away under the collar when not required.
Its an accomplished design with a decent fabric at a good price. Being a US Brand it zips from the wrong side (for the UK).
