Marmot Neothermo Hoody

The Neothermo Hoody is a lightweight, highly breathable fleece constructed using Polartec Power Grid fabric, providing maximum warmth from minimum weight.

Marmot says:

Questing in the mountains is all about your output. And luckily, this athletic-fitting hoody, built with PolartecⓇ Power Grid™ fleece fabric and a flat-locked construction, is built to always be on the move.

The Marmot Neothermo Hoody is made from Polartec Power Grid which has raised channels on the inside of the fabric designed to trap air, making it warmer than you'd expect from it's weight. Highly breathable though warmth is compromised in windy conditions so it will need to then be backed up by a windproof layer.

This compressible, highly breathable zip-up hoody has flat-locked seams and integrated thumb holes to keep sleeves in place when layering.

Bought the previous version of this in a sale, just too expensive for me to justify as a super light mid layer or mid base layer. That’s the bad (the cost), the good is it’s great. Obviously does what it says on the tin but what’s worth saying is it works well when wet. There’s so little fabric to soak up moisture I’m quite happy getting soaked while moving, remaining comfortable. When you stop, throw on whatever layer and it’s warm. I’d expect any of the Polartec micro grid products to perform similarly. I’d buy another as soon as it’s in the sale. Mines a half length zip with no hood, seems every bit of gear comes with a hood, you only need 1 good hood on your gear setup! So I can’t comment on how well this hood packs away. Changed the way I look at base layers, now a much more important decision than the big money hard shell layers. The Patagonia R1 is basically a heavy weight version of the same style fabric, also great bit of gear.
