This jacket provides a huge amount of protection from the elements for such a lightweight and comfortable piece. With Gore Windstopper, DWR coating, thumb loops and an adjustable hood you can really protect yourself. The jacket also provides amazing breathability with a high wicking design and huge amounts of ventilation.
The Ultimate V SO Hooded Jacket Men offers everything you need for changeable mountain weather. Suitable for year-round use and developed exclusively with GORE®, the 3-layer GORE® WINDSTOPPER® material makes the soft shell jacket completely windproof to protect you from cold gusts. You can also hide behind wind and chin protection. A DWR treatment on the outer material gives the jacket water-repellent properties and resistance to rain and damp conditions. The jacket also features a membrane for added breathability, protecting you from chilling after a strenuous section of your hike while at the same time avoiding any build-up of heat under your clothes. The lightweight backing with an open 3D structure provides optimal moisture-transport, thanks to a wicking finish that absorbs moisture from the skin and speeds up the drying process. A whole range of features to ensure you're fully prepared for your next hike in wind and weather!
The Ultimate V SO Hooded Windstopper Jacket from Mammut is an amazing jacket for changeable conditions like those we see here during the British 'summer'. This jacket is surprisingly lightweight and combines Gore Windstopper with excellent levels of breathability so you don't need to stop and get your hard shell out when the wind picks up or showers start. The outer fabric looks tightly woven to keep the wind out while the inner fabric is more open so it absorbs moisture and wicks really well. I would question the durability of the outer face fabric if you are going to be climbing in it or you are particularly rough with it.
The jacket has two hand warmer pockets and a deceptively large chest pocket all with zips. There are elasticated thumb loops to help you keep yourself fully protected. The hood has some adjustability and hem has some elastication but this is limited with the extra large 2-way zips that go all the way up from the hem to under the arms. The lack of elastication in the hem is definitely worth it for the versatility in ventilating the jacket in a way that suits you and the weather you're in.
