Mark Richardson started Ultralight Outdoor Gear (UOG) in 2006. An experienced backpacker even then Mark was gradually buying and using ever lighter clothing and equipment but struggled to pinpoint truly lightweight gear in the mainstream outdoor retailers, his idea was to bring the best lightweight kit together under one ‘roof’ – as it were, then provide an industry leading level of detail on each product to help people buy the best gear for their intended use.

We are passionate about the outdoors and have extensive knowledge and expertise surrounding outdoor gear, we hand-pick every product that we sell which is why our website and products appeal to like-minded enthusiasts.

We publish in-depth trip reports and gear reviews as well as writing ‘our verdict’ for every product on our website giving our honest opinion, highlighting the advantages and disadvantages of the product, so customers know exactly what they are buying.

Mark has a superb knowledge of the gear on our website because he's used a high proportion of it on treks such as the Pyrenean High Route, the John Muir Trail, Indian Himalayas, Alpamayo Circuit and Wainwrights Coast to Coast - to name but a few.

Our company has grown consistently since its formation; based in North East England, we currently have 15 employees, all with outdoor interests and knowledge surrounding outdoor gear, which is why we are able to advise people well and thoroughly support customers after purchases have been made.
