Siliconised Materials
In tensile strength tests the bothside silicon-laminated Ultralight 70D material and 40D material in testing reached outstanding values (11kg and 7kg, EN ISO 13937-3 - single tear method) incontrast to PU-coated PE material (1kg).
The two sided 3-way siliconisation coats the fine ripstop fabric and gives it long lasting protection from damaging UV rays.
Seam Seal
The Hogan UL Argon is the first siliconised tent with taped seams that are serially manufactured. Therefore the seams are 100% waterproof, in contrast to all other siliconised tents. Up to now it was not possible to deliver 100% waterproof seams on siliconised fabrics in industrial production. Manual seam sealing with silicon sealer is unnecessary with the Hogan UL Argon
Our Verdict
Do-able with 2 people but we think this is light enough for one to carry, in which case its luxurious. If you like the extra warmth and protection of two skins and are prepared to carry a bit extra weight for the comfort that a spacious tent delivers on a long trip then this will be a serious candidate.
The three pole design offers stability, especially when pitched with the extra storm guys, there is a lot on offer for this weight of tent. The front 'hood' means that the top of the porch can be unzipped for ventilation without letting the rain in.
The Argon version is simply top of the range.

There are Four Vaude tents that go by the name of 'Hogan Ultralight', the 'Hogan Ultralight' itself is a full two man version with conventional seams etc. The 'Hogan Ultralight 1' is a smaller version that sleeps 1 comfortably and 2 at a squeeze, and is correspondingly lighter.
The third tent is the 'Hogan Ultralight Argon' which is a version of the smaller tent with taped seams, a technique pioneered by Vaude in a production environment.
The fourth tent in the family is the Hogan Ultralight XP - it uses lighter materials so even though its has a bigger vestibule it weighs little more than the Argon.
