| Thermarest Neo Air Trekker |
 |
New for 2011: The surprisingly light and compact NeoAir Trekker air mattress offers exceptional comfort and durability for maximum versatility. Our patent-pending Triangular Core Matrix technology creates over 100 internal cells to provide ample three-season warmth without the bulk of added insulation, while providing the most stable night’s rest of any air mattress made.
A rugged polyester bottom boosts all-purpose durability and a supple polyester top is the right choice for those seeking to trim weight, not comfort. Stuff sack included.
Our Verdict
Insulated airbeds offer a great combination of comfort, low weight and small pack size - in many ways they are now the ideal sleeping mat. Some people however prefer self inflating mats because if their mat develops a leak there is still a piece of foam to lie on, if your airbed develops a leak you have nothing.
Other people find they sometimes roll off an airbed and prefer a thinner mat between them and the ground.
The lightest of the Thermarest NeoAir use very light fabrics which have been reported to make a 'crinkle' sound as you move around on them - they are likened to sleeping on a crisp packet - my experience is that this is minimal - after using a NeoAir for a couple of years I didn't realise it crinkled until someone pointed it out to me! Now I know - I still don't notice it when kipping down.
There are now five types of NeoAir sleeping mat with differing weights and insulation values, and each type comes in a range of sizes. We've summarised the full range for comparison in the following table, the weights are based on the Regular sized mat for each type:
