New model for Spring 2011, with smaller pack size, extra venting and 4 additional guy points for increased pitch stability. The Laser Photon 2 is the worlds first sub-900g two person double-wall shelter! Suitable for adventure racing, mountain marathons, and ultra light backpacking.
The flysheet can be raised at the ends for ventilation and also offers a short pack length for smaller packs. This tent is compatible with the Terra Nova FASTPACK system which allows those who want to trim weight further when conditions permit, to use the flysheet and the fastpack groundsheet which is available separately.
Our Verdict
The transverse hoop design is a classic much copied, but Terra Nova were there first and they've developed this type of tent further than many imitators. Check the dimensions carefully because Terra Nova tents can feel small - but they are the lightest around - in fact its ideal as a spacious solo backpacking tent that weighs less than a lot of single person tents.

1. Folding Poles
For 2011 the Carbon Fibre poles fold into two parts which results in a greatly reduced packed length for the following models: Laser Ultra 1, Laser Photon 1, Laser Photon 2, Laser Competition 1, Laser Competition 2.

2. Innovative Ventilation
There are already various ways you can increase ventilation on the Laser range of models , but the designers have added extra options at each end of the Laser tents for 2011. There is already a innovative roll up system on the Laser Competition 2 but other models in the range now run with a less sophisticated, but lighter version for 2011.
At each end of the tent (by the carbon poles) there is now a simple elastic and toggle roll up system on the flysheet that allows a huge amount of extra ventilation without compromising poor weather performance or weight. This applies to the following models: Laser Ultra 1, Laser Photon 1, Laser Photon 2, Laser Competition 1.

3. Extra guy Points
As more and more people are pushing the boundaries of use of the Laser models, we have added 2 extra guy points to the ends of some of the Laser range. This was already specified on the Laser Completion 2 and allows the user to get an even better pitch in poor weather. Note extra pegs and guyline are required. This applies to the following models: Laser Photon 1, Laser Photon 2, Laser Competition 1.

Note: Due to the super light nature of the material used in the tents construction we are unable to factory seal the seams, in a conventional method. However they are positioned and sewn in a way that minimises water penetration and it’s possible to add further protection yourself, with seam sealer, to fully waterproof the tent. A free black pole cover (tied on) is also supplied with the Laser tents to fully waterproof the main seam, add stability, protect the zip and add extra protection to the most exposed part of the tent to UV damage. |
