The Microlight Alpine eVent jacket takes everything we've learned from making lightweight down pieces and combines this with our waterproof shell expertise to create a down insulated, fully waterproof jacket.

We use 140g/5oz (size large) of US750 fill European goose down and a 2 layer eVent® fabric shell that combine to create a warm and breathable jacket that is ideal for Alpine climbing, winter mountain walking and for those changeable days at the crag spent dodging the rain.  

Our Verdict

Teaming up an eVent shell with down insulation is a relatively new innovation, what it offers is a down jacket that you can wear in the rain without struggling to put a hardshell over the top - and with eVent being so breathable you'll stay comfortable too - its the ultimate winter garment.

You lose some flexibility though, you can't wear 'just a shell' when you're sweating up a mountainside in the pouring rain, and its not as breathable as a standard down jacket when all you need is insulation. Where it particularly comes into its own will be cold climates with precipitation - if you're heading somewhere like that this winter it could just be the ideal jacket.
