| Primus EtaPackLite Gas Stove System |
 |
Compact, Light, Fast and Fuel Efficient.
This is a stove that really deserves its name - extremely small and easily collapsible. The stove consists of a base with a burner and piazo igniter, windscreen, a 1.2 Litre pot and a lid in sturdy plastic that can also be used as a collander, with its bayonet fastening.
All the components can be packed into the pot, leaving room for a 100g LP gas cartridge. Primus fuel efficient burner and the Eta Power pot cut down the weight in your pack by cutting down on fuel.
To protect the non-stick coating a graded bowl made of hygienic, environmentally friendly polypropylene is included. The bowl also makes an excellent serving bowl.
Our Verdict
On the face of it a heavy system - but don't forget this also includes a windshield, piezo lighter, pot gripper and non stick 1.2Litre pot. We reckon the weight can be justified over trips of 6 days or over - it could be justified for other reasons also - such as stability of this system, speed, convenience and other features.
On the weight front:
Minimum weight of a 1 Litre titanium pan, stove, windshield etc would be around 250g, about 500g less. BUT, a 230g gas cartridge (Actual weight 362g) lasts (say) 3 days, and the Eta Heat Exchanger System is claimed to be around 50% more efficient - then (very roughly and unscientific) the extra weight is justified for trips over six days.
How light can you go? The internal pan protector could be replaced by a couple of pieces of thin fowm - saving about 45g, leave the heat exchanger protector at home - saving 38g, leave the bag at home - saving 30g. Full functionality remains at 630g.
The extra weight could also be justified by the fact that the pot is non-stick and incorporates insulated handles, and the stove has a piezo electric lighter.
At a pinch you could use this 1.2Litre pot for two people. If you want a stable, efficient and fast system with lots of features such as the lid that locks onto the pan, or remote gas regulation valve, then this could be for you - using the locking lid is the best, and safest method of draining pasta that we've ever seen on a camping stove.
