| Lowe Alpine Nanon 50:60 Litre Pack |
 |
The Nanon targets those people who want a lighter packs but also want functional features that help to organise their loads during the trek.
Our Verdict
Excellent pack! The back length is very easy to adjust which we like and the lumbar pad is well padded so its sits well in the..well...er ...the lumbar region. The hip belt pockets are quite small but perfectly made - the finish on the pack is excellent.
The back panel is mesh which is stretched to create a reasonable void for air to circulate. The adaptive fit hipbelt is basically a strap with a floating buckle that floats into the correct position for your hips - simple but highly marketed! The shoulder straps can be adjusted to varying lengths.
The large stuff pocket on the front of the pack works well, it has elasticated mesh sides and so expands to the size thats required - its ideal for packing a wet flysheet in the morning. It also has a further flat zipped pocket on the front of it.
Its a good pack if you like lots of places to stash gear. The lid has pockets as well but can also be removed in its entirety to save weight if you don't need it, though removing it is fiddly because you've got to remove buckles etc.
Read a lot of good reviews about the series as well. Here is a magazine review of the smaller pack in the series. Most features are the same as the Nanon 50:60.

Introduced in 2004 the Torso Fit® Centro™ adjustable back is simple and elegant - and very strong. This patented back system has been developed for mid-size backpacks giving easy adjustment, durability and light weight. The Centro™ system uses a centrally-adjusted buckle to allow non-slip adjustment. Accurate measurement is achieved by using the Torso Fit® colour blocks as reference - measurement is correct when the colour appears in the center of the buckle.
To shorten the back, crank the webbing through the buckle using an up/down action. To lengthen, simply lift the buckle then pull the harness upwards.
Once adjusted, tuck the webbing away.

Torso Length:
 |
To find your torso length, measure the distance between your seventh cervical vertebra and the shelf of your hipbones.
Do this by standing up straight with your feet shoulder-width apart. Tilt your head forward and place your hands on your hips, thumbs to the back. With a flexible tape, have someone measure from the most prominent vertebra at the base of your neck to an imaginary line drawn between your thumbs.
This will be your torso length.
