| Lightwave Wildtrek 70 |
 |
The Wildtrek 70 is a comfortable, lightweight, mid-volume backpack that is ideal for 2–5 day backpacking trips.
At 1.55 kg, the Wildtrek 70 is exceptionally light for a rucksack with such a comfortable carry, weighing 300–500 g less than most other backpacks with comparable back systems. It has a fixed back length and is available in two sizes.
All the seams on the main body and lid are either welded or taped, which means the Wildtrek 70 is virtually waterproof and ideal for use in wet weather. (For technical reasons the seams attaching the back panel cannot be sealed but are largely protected from the weather by the wearer’s own back.)
It also features a unique water-resistant base compartment that is accessed from the outside by a discreet zip. When not in use, the lightweight nylon dividing panel sits flat on the bottom of the main rucksack compartment.
Our Verdict
The hallmarks of Lightwave products are design and durability - they occupy the gap between very light, no frills options and heavier more traditional gear. Lightwave Packs are no exception - slightly heavier than an ultralight pack but with a robust internal frame, tough fabrics and a well thought out carry system - they fit their role perfectly.
The WILDTREK series is designed for Lightweight trekking, 3 - 5 day backpacking, Adventure travel.
Our view is that the 40lbs maximum carry weight is ideal for ultralight backpacking loads for longer / 4 season trips or for trips to more extreme locations were additional or heavier gear is required. Also worth noting that the additional weight of the Wildtrek 70 versus the Wildtrek 70 is minimal.

"Just wanted to say how pleased I am with the Lightwave Wildtrek 70 rucksack which I purchased from you. Your service was fine, it arrived quickly. The rucksack is made of robust material and has coped well with four BA flights and one backbacking trip of three days. The back system and hip belt work very well to produce a comfortable and stable carry, I carried about 20 kg at the start of my long hike.
The four hip pockets are brilliant. The lid pocket is capacious, with good features, such as clip for car keys, and an extra hidden zip pocket underneath. There are no wand pockets, but I reckon the other features compensate. I went for this one as it was only a few grams more than the 60 litre version, but still exceptionally light at 1.55 kg. I reckon it should serve me well for a good few trips."
