The Fastpack 50 is a comfortable, lightweight and highly water-resistant daysack that is ideal for winter day trips or lightweight weekend hiking trips. It is both exceptionally light – 1.10 kg – and sturdy, being constructed from mid-weight fabrics.
The aluminium stays in the back system allow the Fastpack 50 to support loads of 10-15 kg comfortably, and the close-fitting design of the back panel ensures good carrying stability.
All the seams on the main body and lid are either welded or taped, which means the Fastpack 50 is virtually waterproof and ideal for use in wet or wintry climates. (For technical reasons the seams attaching the back panel cannot be sealed, but these are largely protected from the weather by the wearer’s own back.)
Ski-holders at the base of each side can be combined with the side-compression system to carry skis securely.
Our Verdict
The hallmarks of Lightwave products are design and durability - they occupy the gap between very light, no frills options and heavier more traditional gear. Lightwave Packs are no exception - slightly heavier than an ultralight pack but with a robust internal frame, tough fabrics and a well thought out carry system - they fit their role perfectly.
The FASTPACK series is designed for Ultralightweight trekking, Weekend backpacking and Ski touring. The 25lbs carry weight is ideal for ultralight backpacking loads and the 50 litre capacity offers plenty of space for additional or bulky items such as a closed cell foam mat.
